Ways to Get Your Cardio In Without a Gym Membership

Most of us want to exercise more and enjoy the benefits of a good cardio workout. With that said, having a gym membership isn’t for  everyone. Gym memberships can be costly, and if you have a busy life, it isn’t always easy to carve out time to go and get a Gym workout plan for beginners and then exercise.

Fortunately, you can get a good cardio workout without going to the gym or having to buy expensive exercise equipment. This will make it easier to fit your cardio workout into your free time and it will also save money.

Tips for Your Cardio Workout

Before looking at some of the exercises that can be good for cardio, it is important to understand some of the tips that can help you get the best results.

  • Start Slow: If you are new to exercising, you need to start slow and gradually build your intensity.
  • Warm-up: You should warm up and stretch for about five to ten minutes before starting your cardiovascular exercises.
  • Cool Down: Gently stretch the muscles that were worked out for about five to ten minutes at the end of your workout.
  • Safety: You should wear a good pair of workout shoes and be aware that some exercises can exert force on different joints.

Jogging in Place

Jogging in place is one of the simplest cardio exercises. You don’t need any special equipment and it can be great for getting your heart rate up. The only downside to jogging in place is that it can put stress on the knees. If you have knee problems, you may want to look for other cardio exercises and avoid jogging in place.

Jumping Jacks

Jumping jacks are a classic and we all did them in gym class when we were kids. In case you don’t remember, you start with your feet together and your hands at your side. From that position, you move your feet out wide while jumping and circle your arms up over your head.

This is a simple exercise and it can be a good way to burn calories. The only issue is that it is an impact exercise, so it might not be the right choice for people with bad joints.

Stair Exercises

A set of stairs can be a great piece of workout equipment. With various stair exercises, you can get a good cardio workout and build strength in your legs. If you don’t want to use the stairs in your home or just don’t have a set of stairs, you could buy a plyo box to do some of these exercises. This is a good time to put on your most comfortable sneakers.

Safety is an important part of doing stair exercises. Clear any items from the stairs before starting. You also want to make sure to be conscious of your balance when doing stair exercises. If you have trouble keeping your balance on one leg, stair exercises might not be the right option for you.

Jumping Rope

Jumping rope is one of the best exercises for burning calories. It might take some time to find your rhythm if you are new to jumping rope, but it is a simple exercise that only requires an inexpensive piece of equipment. Along with that, there are different types of jump-rope routines that can add variety to your cardio workout. The only issue is that jumping rope is a high-impact exercise. If you have joint problems, this might not be a good option to add to your cardio routine.

Mountain Climbers

Mountain climbers are not only good for cardio, but they can also be good for working your abs and your upper body. With this exercise, you start in a plank position with your hands below your shoulders. You then draw one of your legs forward toward your chest and then as you bring that leg back, you move the other leg forward in the same motion. You then keep alternating back and forth in a fashion that is similar to running.

Burpees

While this is a difficult exercise, it is one that has a lot to offer. It is not only good for cardio, but it also works several muscle groups for a full-body workout. This exercise starts with you standing with your feet shoulder-width apart and with your hands at your sides. From the starting position, you drop into a squat and place your hands on the floor. You then kick your feet back to put your body in a plank position, hold it for a second and then jump your feet back in and stand up.

Burpees are one of the best cardio exercises, but they are difficult. If you are new to the exercise, start by moving through the progression of moves slowly. You can increase the intensity as you get used to moving through the different steps.

Squat Jumps

Squat jumps are a good cardio exercise but they can be rough on your knees. You just jump from a squat position and then land back in the squat position. While this exercise can be great for cardio and for building power in your legs, it is something that should be avoided if you have knee problems.

Finally, living an active life is one of the best ways to get your cardio in without having a gym membership. Take walks and run when you get the chance. Choose to take the stairs instead of the elevator and park a little farther away when you get to work or go shopping. If you have kids or a dog, take them out to a park to play and burn some calories.
